Alternative Therapy

We offer various alternative therapies at The Providence Project and many of the staff are fully trained in the delivery of Auricular Acupuncture.

Auricular acupuncture is, quite simply, acupuncture done on the ear. Acupuncture is an ancient medicinal practice that originated in China. The name comes from the Latin acus, or “needle”, and from pungere, or “prick,” and involves the insertion of superfine needles into specific points on the body. Once inserted, the needles can be manipulated to stimulate the body for healing effects. In auricular acupuncture, the insertion of needles is performed on the ear, which is thought to contain a myriad of important and potentially therapeutic acupuncture points.

Lisa Dean – Complimentary Therapist

Reflexology

Lisa joined us in January 2009 after working at a treatment facility in Portugal. Her training in complimentary therapies began with a counselling skills and theory course which in turn led to her qualifying in various holistic treatments.

Lisa is an empathetic therapist with a passion for these gentle, natural and effective treatments which aid relaxation and support the healing process.

Patients are given a menu in order to choose from the following:

Reiki:

Reiki is the Japanese word for ‘universal energy’ and is a gentle healing energy that works on a physical and emotional level. It is given fully clothed and you will be lying on a treatment table whilst Lisa places her hands on or just above the body.

Indian Head Massage:

This is done while seated and is an upper body massage concentrating on the classic tension spots of the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck and head. Relaxing, calming and uplifting.

Reflexology:

This is a natural therapy working on the principle that there are reflexes on the feet (and hands) that correspond to all parts of the body, organs and glands. Using a method of applying pressure using thumbs and fingers on these reflex areas to stimulate and promote the body’s own healing process.
