Weekly Column Part 2
We often hear that someone has to hit rock bottom for detox and rehabilitation to be successful. My answer to that is WHY? Surely it's better to intervene as early as possible rather than wait for people's lives to completely disintegrate which it will eventually do if their dependency issues are left untreated.
How much suffering does one have to endure before entering into a successful treatment programme such as what we have at The Providence Projects? Surely if we can help someone 'nip it in the bud' before the consequences of their drug and/or alcohol use become dire they will not have gone so far down the scale. That means they won't have that far up the scale to recover.
If drugs and alcohol are costing more than money it's already a problem. If someone is trying to control their usage, it's already a problem. If it weren't a problem why would someone need to try control?
When people come to us they sometimes say that they are not as bad as our other clients. We assure them that if they continue doing what they are doing it will soon be as bad and often worse.
Detox with therapeutic treatment at The Provy may just be the beginning of a completely new life for you, or are you happy with the one you currently have?
Best wishes
