Welcome

Welcome to my new weekly column in which I’ll try to dispel many of the myths surrounding treatment for alcohol and all other drugs and also discuss any issues you might have around dependency.

If you have any questions please email them to me; steve@providenceproject.org

Over the past 15 years we have successfully detoxed over 2,000 people from a variety of drugs and alcohol. Having experienced many detox’s myself first hand (thankfully many years ago), that knowledge was used, together with Dr Turnbull’s expertise to ensure that all of our detox’s are as safe and as comfortable as they can possibly be. Our success rate of detoxing people from drugs and alcohol is over 90%.

I was recently asked about the dangers around alcohol detox. The person in question was worried that his daughter may suffer an allergic reaction or suffer from fits while being weaned off alcohol. I can only speak for our drug and alcohol rehab and the detoxes we use. When withdrawing people from alcohol our medical team are usually instructed by our doctor to ensure that besides using a benzodiazepine we also administer medication to ensure our clients will not suffer from fits. They are also administered medication to aid sleep.

Unsupervised alcohol detox can be dangerous.

I hope this answers the question but if you need to know more or have any other questions about drugs and/or alcohol or any other substances or addictive lifestyle or about rehab, please contact me.

Recovery and a complete new way of life might be just around the corner and remember, if you keep doing what you're doing, you'll keep getting what you're getting!
