5 Unexpected Sober Celebrities

Jun 28, 2018 By Paul Spanjar 0 comments

We habitually associate celebrities with the glamourous lifestyle – the lights, camera, the flowing champagne… But is this always the case? We often hear about celebrity battles against addiction, so is it so surprising to hear that some our favourite role models live sober?  Here we list some of the most surprising sober celebrities and their alcohol addiction treatment.

Rob Lowe

West Wing star, Rob Lowe received the Spirit of Sobriety award in 2015 to celebrate 25 clean years. Receiving the award, he stated “Being in recovery has given me everything of value that I have in my life”. Rob started his sober live after receiving support in an alcohol rehab back in 1990, and claims his stay was a life-changing experience.

Bradley Cooper

Bradley Cooper has been sober since the age of 29, after struggling with alcohol and painkiller addiction. He has claimed that quitting alcohol saved his acting career and he wouldn’t be where he is today without becoming sober.

Kat Von D

Celebrity tattoo artist, Kat Von D recently celebrated her 10-year sobriety milestone.  She spoke openly on the Rosie O’Donnell show back in2012, explaining how her drinking was affecting her tattoo talents.

Ben Affleck

Batman actor Ben Affleck has had long-term battle with alcohol addiction. Affleck has sought support from alcohol rehabs twice and continues with his alcohol addiction treatment. He even attended the 2017 Oscars with his sober coach!

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel developed an “unhealthy” drinking problem whilst filming the Harry Potter movies. He quit drinking after shooting the final film. Despite a brief relapse, the actor has now been living happily sober for three years.

From my initial talk with Paul, the admission process with Jon and my induction with Darryl, I was treated with compassion, empathy and understanding. All the staff had been in the same position as me!...If you are looking for a wealth of experience and knowledge around addiction, a safe environment to turn your life around and a solid foundation for your ongoing recovery you will not be disappointed.”
"Today my husband Paul is 1 year clean and sober thanks to The Providence Projects, he has found himself again and is living the life he deserves. " A life beyond his wildest dreams "… He initially signed up for 1 month but soon realised he needed a further 2 months. Paul has been dedicated and followed the advice given to him. He would not be here today if he hadn't been to The Providence Projects. I cannot thank or praise the program and staff enough…”
