Secondary treatment for alcohol misuse is a great option for those that have the time available to ensure the foundations for their recovery are strong. It is possible to move on to this stage of the rehab programme by either successfully completing a primary alcohol treatment programme here, at The Providence Projects or if you are looking for further treatment after successfully completing a primary alcohol rehab programme at another facility.
For some people, graduating from rehab can be a vulnerable time and a short stay in secondary treatment can be the best way of overcoming these difficulties. Our programme is designed to help with the re-integration into the real world.
During the secondary treatment phase, you will have your own bedroom in very comfortable accommodation and treatment programmes from 4 weeks up to 6 months are available.
Helping you re-integrate
Many of the therapies used in secondary alcohol treatment are similar to those used in previous stages but with more of a focus on current life issues. During this stage residents will have more independence, more free time and are encouraged to explore on-going education, work, accommodation as well as further work on their individual recovery.
The secondary treatment programme includes approximately 20 hours per week of structured timetabled activities and as part of the programme, there are still group therapy sessions, one-one counselling, family therapy and a big focus on relapse prevention.
For those who are looking to return to their home and family, there will be regular visits home to prepare them for life after treatment as well as an opportunity to practice the skills learnt in treatment. For those looking to start a new life, support is provided to assist in this process as we have excellent links locally to help with the rebuilding of lives.
