In the past, friends and family have often been neglected during the drug and alcohol rehab programmes. At The Providence Projects, we understand that the family also need support and in fact, the more involved the family are, the better the individual will do in his or her long term recovery.
Close family members will have deeply suffered as a result of the addiction. Increased anxiety, anger, mistrust, financial problems, depression, isolation, desperation are just some of the feelings that close family members may feel and we are determined to help you recover too.
As part of the standard alcohol rehab and drug rehab programmes, family therapy is offered and provided. During these sessions, which are facilitated by your personal therapist, you, as a family will explore what life has been like, what it is like now, and what it may be like in the future. You have the opportunity to explore family dynamics and address issues with a therapist present to ensure the sessions are productive.
The Providence Projects have family days on a monthly basis. These are mainly educational, providing families and friends with information about addiction and how you can best cope with both addiction and recovery. It will also be your opportunity to meet other family members in similar situations and a place to say what life has been like for you and what support you may need in the future. Refreshments and light snacks are provided on the day.
Bespoke Recovery Programmes
As you may have seen, The Providence Projects offer bespoke recovery programmes for those who have completed their rehab programme. We also offer similar programmes for family members who need help in their own recovery. It is important to remember that addiction is a family illness which affects the whole family. To feel the full benefits of rehab, we recommend that the whole family get into recovery and we can offer tailored solutions to suit the whole family.
